Quinta da Abelenda, Portugal

Very well located at just 200 meters from the river Dão, between Coimbra and Viseu, two lovely cottages, four campsites and a furnished caravan offer peace and quiet in a beautiful setting, with magnificent views over the valley.

Although the Quinta is quiet, it is by no means isolated. It has excellent connections with Lisbon, Oporto and Spain and it is well located for visiting some of the most interesting places of Central Portugal, such as the magnificent mountains of the Serra da Estrela and the Serra do Caramulo, the national park of Bussaco, the old university city of Coimbra and the city of Viseu. The vine-yards of the famous Dão wine are nearby.

The 4 hectare Quinta da Abelenda borders the beautiful Ecopista do Dão, a 49 km biking and hiking path that leads all the way to the city of Viseu, a former railway following the Dão river for miles. This river is very wide near Quinta da Abelenda, because it is part of the artificial Lake of Aguieira.

We offer guided horseback riding tours and we rent bicycles and canoes.

The two cottages, Bed & Breakfast or Self Catering

One of the cottages (sleeps 2 + 2) is located on a slope of Quinta da Abelenda and has a beautiful view of the valley. The other cottage is located near a small stream flowing through the valley. The cottages are surrounded by nature, large oak and cork oak trees, impressive rocks, several water springs and small creeks. There are also some fields for the horses and the fruit trees. In spring there are numerous wild flowers and beautiful ferns.

The 4 campsites and the furnished caravan

Besides the two cottages we rent a fully equipped caravan and we have 4 campsites on beautiful spots with lots of space. Ideal for those who like rural camping in Portugal. Although there is plenty of space (4 hectares) for more accommodation on the quinta, we don't want more than this one caravan, the four campsites and two cottages, because we like to keep it quiet on the quinta. The campsites and the caravan have a beautiful view over the valley and at the other side of the stream, the horses.

Our horses, organic farming

Quinta da Abelenda has, besides the the 2 cottages, the house of the owners, the caravan and the 4 campsites, another part used for (officialy certified) organic farming. There is a vegetable and herb garden, fruit trees and fields for the 5 horses.We will sell products from our quinta starting 2013.
